I use a service called ntfy (pronounced notify) to send push notifications from WxMesg to your mobile device or desktop browser. The app is available for both Android and iOS devices in the respective app stores.
Use a web browser to check it out before getting the app.
• Open the browser of your choice and proceed to https://ntfy.sh/app,
• Click on the <Grant Now> button in the “Notifications are disabled” warning box,
• Click on “Subscribe to topic” and subscribe to the topic: “contained in your registration email” (case sensitive), then press <Subscribe>.
The screen should now populate with any notifications. Don’t be alarmed, some of the information being displayed is test data that I sent while working on some formatting issues. Your browser will automatically refresh with new alerts as they are received.
How do I get the app for my mobile device?
• Go to the app store of your phones flavor,
• Search for and download ntfy to your device,
• Open the app and go to Settings (gear icon),
• Click on “Default Server”. It should already be prepopulated with https://nfty.sh, simply press <Save>,
• Return to the Notification tab (conversation bubble icon), click the + sign to subscribe to topic named “contained in your registration email” (case sensitive) and then press <Subscribe>.
I run iOS and my screen isn’t refreshing, what now?
Be aware there is a known issue with the iOS app where the Notification Screen may not show the correct count of alerts, or tell you there are no alerts. The author is unfamiliar with how to program the screen refresh on iOS. Hopefully, this will be corrected in a future release. You can try pulling down the screen to see if the screen refreshes. It may or may not.
nfty Recommended iOS Notification Setting
If you are running iOS, here is a recommend setting for ntfy notifications.
• Phone Settings > Notifications, NTFY, set the Banner Style to “Temporary”, and change Notification Grouping to “Off”.
